fingerboard cradle

This fingerboard jig is used for planing the flat and radiused surfaces of a fingerboard with and without bench dogs. It features two removable attachments:

• L shape attachment (narrow end): for planing against a bench. Designed to rotate and accommodate work on both surfaces.

• Stop (wide end): for stopping the fingerboard from sliding out when planing or gouging in the other direction. Works for both surfaces. L shaped for planing the radiused surface against a bench. 

The design is based on fingerboard measurements for a typical new violin: 270mm long, narrower end 24mm, wider end 42mm, 42mm radius, 5-5.5mm thick.

Note: A fingerboard made to the above specs will stick out a bit, as the jig also needs to accommodate narrower/older fingerboards. The space between the jig body and the stop should accommodate any reasonable stick outs. 

To remove metal pins safely, use a vise or a pair of pliers with cushioned jaws.
